Accrual probation periods
Probation periods specify when accrued time or money can be used within a specified time period.
From the Main Menu, selectAdministration > Application Setup > Accruals > Probation Periods. When you create, edit or duplicate probation periods, use the following fields:
The information or fields that appear depend on whether the probation period is single or recurring.
- Name — Name of the probation period. Name is required, case-insensitive, and must be unique among all probation periods.
- Type — Select Single or Recurring.
- Single — Single probation periods occur one time, during which time or money is vested. When the probation period ends, the accrued time or money is available immediately and continues to be available.
- For example, you create a single probation period of 65 working days, which a regular, full-time employee is required to complete before the employee can use vacation time. You could define a probation period named 65-day Probation that uses a daily date pattern that ends after 65 days.
- Recurring — Probations in which another probation period begins when a prior probation period ends.
- For example, an employee earns time between January 1 and June 30, time cannot be taken until July 1. If the employee earns time between July 1 and December 31, time cannot be taken until January 1. The accrued time appears as a section of time when the probation period ends.
- Probation Ends After — A numeric amount coupled with a period of time specified by a date pattern. This specifies the interval of time during which accrual balances are earned and can be taken or paid when the time period ends.
Qualifier
Qualifiers test for specific conditions, such as the number of days worked, before ending a single probation period. Qualifiers are not available with recurring probation periods.
- Qualifier — The number of days, associated with the type of qualifier you select, that is required to complete the probation period successfully. For example, an Amount of 60 with a Qualifier of Days Active means that employees must be active for 60 days before the probation can qualify.
- Paycode A category of time or money that employees earn, for example, Regular Hours, Bonus, or Sick. — The paycode, if any, associated with the qualifier.
- Period to Check — How often the system should check to determine whether the probation period qualifier has been met. For example, if you enter 3 and select Months from the drop-down list, the system would check every three months.
- Total Range of Time — The entire length of time you selected in Period to Check to meet the probation period requirement.
- Minimum Occurrence — The minimum number of periods required. If you enter more than 1, specify whether the time periods can be in any order or must be consecutive.
Note: You can use paycode only when the qualifier is hours in the paycode.
