Using the App while Offline
Properly configured users can punch The entries on a timecard that mark the beginning (in-punch) or end (out-punch) of a work interval, such as the beginning of a shift or transfer. in and punch out from the mobile app even when there is no internet connection (“Offline Mode”). In Offline Mode, the device holds the transaction data (including the location information derived from GPS, WiFi, or a QR Code) until a connection with the server is available. There are two ways that offline punches transfer to the server:
-
Automatic - There is a checkbox on the login screen where you can choose to automatically upload punches when a connection to the server is available. The punches will automatically transfer without the need to login.
-
Manual - The punch data gets transferred to the server when you login.
Users who are configured for offline usage can choose to enter offline mode at any time, even if they are connected to a server - this is useful in locations where the signal is weak. If the connection is lost when working "online", the user will be prompted to enter offline mode. Once a user (who has met the requirements for offline usage) enters offline mode, the Punch screen displays. After punching, a Offline Punch Recorded message indicates that the punch has been successfully saved to the mobile device and is awaiting a connection to the server to transfer ("sync").
Note: The punch is not verified until it transfers to the server. When the transfer occurs, all geofencing rules apply based on the location when the punch occurred.
Offline punches stored on a device do not expire. The app will provide the punches upon connection to the server as long as there are offline punches to submit. The server, however, may have restrictions (for example, if a pay period is closed/locked). Refer to the Timekeeping online help for more information.
There is no limit set by the system as to the number of offline punches that can be stored. The amount of available storage on the mobile device is the limit.

If you are in an environment where the internet connection is weak, you may prefer to work offline. If you are working on the system and choose to work offline, remember to save before you go offline or you will lose any unsaved data
Offline-enabled users can enter offline mode as follows:
- At the login screen, tap the down arrow in the upper right corner and select Offline.
- From within the application, tap the Work Offline link.
You will be presented with a list of valid offline users from which to choose.

When you are working on a system and the connection is lost, a message appears, and you have the following three options:
- Close out of the app (you will lose all unsaved data).
- Wait for the connection to be restored; the system will attempt to reconnect for a period of time defined in the system properties.
- Choose to Work Offline. You will be presented with a list of valid offline users from which to choose.
If working offline and connectivity is available, a banner appears where you can choose to reconnect.
Note: Offline transactions are not supported in Attestation The act of confirming or attesting that something is true. For example, when punching out, users may need to attest that they took their meal breaks. environments
